After a varied corporate career, I started retraining to become an editor in 2019 and in that time I’ve completed various training courses:
- Introduction to Proofreading (SfEP 2019)
- Proofreading Headway (SfEP 2019)
- Brush Up Your Grammar (CIEP 2020)
- Proofreading Progress (CIEP 2021)
- Introduction to Copyediting (CIEP 2021)
- Copyediting Headway (CIEP 2022)
- Introduction to Fiction Editing (CIEP 2024)
- Line-editing Dialogue (Club Ed 2025)
In that time I’ve attained the status of Advanced Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading, the top rung of membership, which means I’m considered to demonstrate a high level of professionalism and competence.
I’ve attended the CIEP Annual Conference each year since 2020, and I can regularly be seen at numerous writing and book festivals.
I’m an Associate Member of Crime Cymru, a collective which seeks to showcase and advance Welsh crime fiction and its authors, and I’m a Partner Member of ALLi (the Alliance of Independent Authors), a body which provides support and guidance to self-publishing authors of all genres.
I edit all types of crime fiction:
- cosy mystery
- police procedural
- whodunnits in the classic style
- fantasy crossover ‘magical’ crime
- thrillers
- hard-boiled noir
- Scandi noir
- serial killers… The list goes on.
Ongoing series are a speciality and I’ve worked on several for regular repeat clients.
My favourite fiction genres to read are police procedurals, magical crime, fantasy and sci-fi, and steampunk (which sort of combines them all).
I also have a passion for food writing (from quite an early age, my preferred bedtime reading was cookbooks) and in my spare time I’m usually stressing about perfecting my sourdough and learning more about my very latest obsession: cheesemaking.
